Gradebook

The Gradebook feature allows instructors to perform many different functions related to grading. Within the Gradebook you can add items, manage items, specify your Gradebook settings, personalize how to weight your grades, download grades and upload grades. Through the Gradebook you can grade all your exams without independently having to go through each exam.

From the Control Panel:

  1. Click on the Gradebook link in the Assessment section.

    Function Types

    Add Item
    1. Fill in Item Name field.
    2. Select category from the Category pull down list.
    3. Type description of item in Description field.
    4. Set Date.
    5. Fill in points possible in the Points Possible field.
    6. Specify display as option from the Display As pull down list.
    7. Select Options by clicking desired radio box(s).
    8. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the Submit button.

    Manage Item
    1. Select order of items by the Order pull down list.
    2. Click the OK button that is located at the bottom of the page.

    Gradebook Settings
    1. Select desired option.

    Within Spreadsheet Settings
    a. Click desired options.
    b. Click the Submit button.
    c. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the Submit button.

    Within Manage Gradebook Categories
    a. Click Add Category button.
    b. Fill in Title field.
    c. Fill in Description field.
    d. Click the Submit button.
    e. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the Submit button.

    Within Manage Display Options
    a. Click Add Display button.
    b. Type in Name field.
    c. Type desired numbers and symbols in offered fields.
    d. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the Submit button.

2. Click the OK button.

Weight Grades
1. Click desired Weight radio button.
2. Click the Submit button.
3. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the Submit button.

Download Grades
1. Read instructions on the Download Gradebook page.
2. Click the Download button.
3. Click the OK button from the File Download window.
4. Select location to download to.
5. Click the Save button.
6. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the Submit button.

Note: The Gradebook .csv downloaded file is an Excel compatible file, which can be opened from Excel (File>open).

Upload Grades
1. Click the Browse button.
2. Click the Open button.
3. Click the Submit button.
4. Choose desired options.
5. Click the Submit button.
6. Select all students who the file being uploaded affects.
7. Click the Submit button.
8. Click the OK button.

More Information

Q: How can I sort my items by Titles?
A: The Sort Items by pull down list allows you to sort Items by Category, Date Added, Positions, and Titles.

Q: Why would I want to us the Filter Items by Category pull down list?
A: The Filter Items by Category pull down list allows you to filter items by specific Items or view all Items at the same time.

Q: What happens if I click on any of the underlined names?
A: By clicking the underlined names you will be able to access a list of options for each category. The student’s name provides such information as User Information, User Grade List, and User Details. Clicking the assignments you will be offered options such as Item Grade List, Item Information, Item Detail, Item Download, and Item File Clean Up.
